Will include seer’s rape case in final report: Panel on women’s safety

Bengaluru: The expert committee for recommending measures to contain exploitation, atrocity and rape against women and children has submitted its preliminary report to the government, making 18 recommendations.

Committee chairman V.S. Ugrappa, after submitting the report to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, said that the committee needs six more months to submit the final report.

The committee, which reviewed 10 cases, has made recommendations for each case. The suggestions include compensation to victims, closure of colleges and installation of CCTV cameras in schools and colleges, where such incidents have taken place.

On Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, where the nurses had gone on a strike, the committee recommended suo motu action and asked the Labor, Women and Child Welfare Department to file a case against Vokkaliga Sangha, which runs the college.

Asked why the committee did not go through infamous rape case involving Ramachandrapura Math seer Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami, Mr Ugrappa said that the committee wrote to the government whether it could summon the accused, but there was no reply.

However, the issue would be definitely discussed in the final report, he said.
