Not much Maoist activity in state this year: Anurag Sharma
Hyderabad: According to senior Telangana police officials, no mass recruitment by Maoists is going on in the state, either from universities or elsewhere.
State police chief Mr Anurag Sharma claimed that the Maoist activities had declined this year because of strict police action. In 2015, five Maoists were killed in six shootouts by the police in various parts of the state. A total of 166 ultras were arrested and 12 leaders had surrendered.
“There are currently as many as 156 underground cadre from Telangana who are operating in other states,” he said, adding that more than a hundred of them were in Dandakaranya.
Asked if there was a recruitment drive by Maoists, the DGP said, “There is no mass scale recruitment by them. There could be infrequent (attempts). ”
In September this year, during an exchange of fire between Maoists and police in Warangal district, an M.Tech woman student had been killed. In June, a 19-year-old dropout, K. Vivek, was among the three people shot dead in a police shooting at the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border in Khammam.
