100 youths held in MRY drive

All the youths were counselled and the police warned them of strong action.

Hyderabad: Nearly 100 youths including 19 minors riding bikes without valid documents were apprehended by South Zone Police as part of Mission Roam Yos (MRY) on the midnight of Tuesday. The drive was conducted from 12.30am to 2am.

All the youths were counselled and the police warned them of strong action if they are found roaming around the city again at nights without any serious purpose.A few of the detained youths alleged that even as they cited valid reasons, cops caught and placed them in their custody the whole night. Police said this was not true.

Police said that it was keeping in view the upcoming New Year celebrations that the South Zone Police conducted the operation in various parts of the Old City. The detained youths were lodged at respective police stations, while the minors were sent home after collecting their details. All the minors were counselled in the presence of their parents on Wednesday morning.

“We warned the minor boys and their parents of strict action if it happens again. They will be booked under respective sections the next time. Notably, however, the number of apprehended youths came down drastically from hundreds in the past,” said Charminar ACP Ashok Chakravarthy. All the youths were let off after counselling.
