Sweet ‘16’, resolutely
With the New Year ready to roll, it’s a given that it’s time to reflect on the year that went by and how you can be better in 2016. The promise of a fresh set of 365 days and the ability to start on a clean slate, is too tempting for many and people across the globe resolve (or make feeble attempts) to change their lives, starting January 1. From losing those 10 extra pounds to trying to finish the novel you’ve always been meaning to write, the list is endless. But for a growing community of youngsters in the city, it’s not about being better, but about being different.
Vivek Lama, a city-based software professional, has promised himself to ‘never ever’ drink on a Friday. And why you may ask. “Because I always over-do Friday, and end up hungover and sick on weekends, so I never enjoy myself,” he tells us. While some are serious about their weekends, others are into travelling, notwithstanding the rigours of looking after a newborn.
“This year, I’ve promised myself that I will take my child to Goa for a holiday, or never go back there again. I know it sounds silly, but I guess that’s the only way I’ll ensure we do the trip,” reveals Pranalika Mahanta, a communications professional, who has just had a baby girl.
Roshan Kamat, founder of a automobile camera firm, is also consumed by wanderlust and has decided to ride out out of the city every weekend, on his KTM Duke 390. “I love being on the road on my bike. I would like to cover coastal places like Goa, Pondicherry and Kanyakumari. These are places I’ve visited before, but riding there will double the fun,” he tells us.
For some with a serious sweet tooth, it’s about frequenting their favourite ice cream store more often. “I’m chocolate and ice cream obsessive and so I have decided to taste everything on the menu of Corner House,” shares Zubin Unvalla, who enjoys conducting various culinary experiments in the comfort of his kitchen.
Apart from regular Joes, celebs too have declared their resolutions for 2016. American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest recently garnered some attention and laughs when he shared that he intends to find his dog, Ginger a soulmate in 2016. “Next year, I’m going to try to find my dog Ginger a soulmate. And I’ve got to find one for myself. There’s a lot of work I’ve got to do. I know because I’ve lived with me,” he was quoted as saying. Other like, Singer Sam Smith too want to find love, but with a hidden agenda. "My New Year’s resolution is to find a man so I can get dumped, and then write a new record about the pain,” he told a prominent British daily.
And whether these resolutions are followed or not, here’s to a quirky New Year.
