Pakistan arrests 75 suspects including 10 Afghans in Taliban suicide blast case
Peshawar: Pakistani authorities on Wednesday arrested 75 suspects during search operations at refugee camps, a day after a deadly suicide attack killed 26 people outside a crowded government office in the country's restive northwest region.
The arrested people include 10 Afghan refugees besides 12 suspects from NADRA officer in Nowshera district, police said. Police have also recovered weapons from some of the arrested suspects.
The raids were carried out in Jalozai refugees camp as a bike-borne Taliban suicide bomber yesterday blew himself up outside the office of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). At least 26 people were killed and 60 others injured in one of the deadliest attacks since the Peshawar school carnage that left over 150 dead.
During probe into yesterday's blast, authorities sent DNA sample of suspected suicide attackers to laboratory for identification. Anti-terrorism department has also registered an FIR against unknown terrorist and his facilitators on the request of Station House Office of City Police Station.
The investigation team recorded witnesses' statements and gathered evidence from the blast site. Chasis and engine number of the bike used by the bomber have also been obtained.
According to reports, the motorbike is unregistered. "Apparently the target was the queue as there were around 400 people standing there," district police chief Faisal Shahzad said.
