Capital master plan reveals Amaravati to emerge as mega city.

Vijayawada: The cities of Vijayawada, Guntur and Mangalagiri town and Ibrahimpatnam areas will play an important role on par with Amaravati capital city in future. As per Amaravati master plan, Vijayawada is the business capital, Guntur to be education hub, Ibrahimpatnam would be industrial suburb and Mangalagiri would be logistic hub. These towns and cities would be major factors in Amaravati capital city growth and as well as employment providing centres. The Amaravati capital and Vijayawada cities will emerge as central twin cities and also a mega city with complementary economic roles.
According to Amaravati master plan, Guntur is the third most populous city within Andhra Pradesh. The city is renowned for its numerous educational institutions, and functions as the education hub of the state. Additionally, the city is also the largest producer of chillis and is known for its chilli, cotton and tobacco exports. E-commerce and other business related industries are also fast growing within Guntur.
On the other hand, Ibrahimpatanam will be industrial suburb, the mandal headquarter is 17 kilometers away from Vijayawada city. Ibrahimpatnam is popular for Dr Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station and railway wagon workshop at Rayanapadu. Already, quarters are there for power plant employees in the area. The town will continue its role as the Industrial suburb in the future.
Besides, Mangalagiri is an important pilgrimage centre, popular for handloom weaving units and agriculture. The town is strategically located between the three biggest cities in the region. Due to its strategic location the town functions as a logistics hub. The existing population is expected to grow to 0.22 million from the current 0.1 million by the year 2021. In the presence of these existing established economic centres, the new Capital must position itself with complementary economic functions with a unique positioning strategy in order to create a sustainable economic structure within the region, says the master plan.
