Stop burning Captain effigies, Jayalalithaa orders
Chennai: AIADMK leader J. Jayalalithaa on Tuesday instructed her party cadres to refrain from burning effigies of DMDK leader Vijayakanth. She also ordered them not to conduct any protest or demonstrations against the actor.
In a statement, the party general secretary said the actor was periodically involved in cheap political acts, instigating his party cadres to remove AIADMK banners and posters.
“Do not respond to such awkward behaviors. Our party founded by iconic MGR is a public welfare organization with ethics and high values. By reacting to such uncivilized acts, we will be distracted from our fundamentals of helping the public”, she said.
The law will take its course of action to deal with such ill-mannered acts and the public will teach the DMDK a fitting lesson in the ensuing assembly polls, she said.
“Vijayakanth, during his Thanjavur party meeting, had mistaken his party cadres for AIADMK members when they were seen removing his flex board, which they did only to get a better view of the meeting. Subsequently, without verifying the facts, he had ordered for the removal of my banners and this had irked the AIADMK cadres across the state. In retaliation, the AIADMK cadres are burning the effigies of Vijayakanth,” the statement explained, advising AIADMK functionaries to ignore the actor and his acts.
