Postcards a way to reach busy President
Hyderabad: Postcards and inland letters might seem outdated modes of communication for many in this age but for thousands of residents of Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) areas, these have proven to be the only way of communication to reach out to President Pranab Mukherjee to express their woes.
The residents wanted to complain about closure of roads by the local military authority in SCB and had tried to secure an appointment with the President who is in the city till December 31. However, they received a reply that due to pressing engagements, he would not be able to meet them and their memorandum could be sent by post or email.
This triggered the idea of sending the letters and now the residents, who a few weeks ago had come under the collective of Open Secunderabad Cantonment Roads (OSCAR), decided to send 10,000 postcards and inland letters to the President, expressing their concern.
OSCAR member Mr Pankaj Sethi said that over 3,000 postcards and inland letters had been sent to Rashtrapati Nilayam in the city.
He said, “We plan to send around 10,000 postcards but as the President will soon be leaving from Hyderabad, we plan to send some even to New Delhi to Rashtrapati Bhavan. Residents of SCB are suffering due to the road closures by the Army and we want the issue to reach the highest levels through any medium possible."
