Pleaded for help but was laughed at, filmed, says Pune Infosys rape survivor

Police is concerned that the victim had to lodge the complaint instead of the company.

Mumbai: Recounting her ordeal, the 25-year-old woman who was raped in Pune Infosys campus has revealed that while one of the housekeeping staff followed her into the ladies washroom, the other laughed off her plea for help and instead recorded her rape in his mobile phone.

According to a report in the midday, the survivor was washing her hands in the washroom when one of the two accused, Paritosh Bagh (21) aka Purushottam, stormed into the washroom bathroom and grabbed her from behind, forced her sari away and assaulted her. As she started screaming for help, the second accused Prakash Mahadik entered the scene and instead of helping her, flipped out his phone and started clicking pictures.

"I was pleading Bagh to leave me, and was shouting for help, when Mahadik entered the washroom. He saw Bagh raping me, but egged him on. He locked the door from inside and began to take pictures and record videos of the incident. I begged Mahadik to help and said I was like his sister, but he only laughed," she was quoted as saying.

After being threatened that they would make the recording public, the survivor called her husband and asked him to pick her up. She narrated the whole incidence to a woman security guard while waiting for her husband. The news spread and the company officials approached the survivor to discuss the matter in detail the next day.

Though she did not break the news to her husband immediately, she let him know of the attack later in the evening. After his insistence, she had a check up done at the lcoal government hospital. She lodged a police complaint the next day following her husband's encouragement.

The police arrested the two accused immediately. The main accused Paritosh Bagh is a native of West Bengal while the other accused Mahadik is a native of Hinjewadi, Pune.

They were produced in court and remanded to police custody. But what leaves the police concerned is that the company did not file a complaint and the survivor had to do it on her own.

The 25-year-old survivor and her husband hail from Yavatmal and moved to Pune as their crops failed last year. She found the job as cashier in the MNC last year and her husband works as a peon in another office in Pune. But she has had her fill of the city. "I do not want to stay in Pune any longer. This city has ruined my life. But I will fight to the end in the hope that the culprit will be punished,” she said.
