Muslim League warns Congress
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Muslim League leadership on Tuesday gave a clear warning to the Congress that if drastic measures were not taken, the UDF would have the same fate in the Assembly elections as in the recently held local body poll.
After the first round of bilateral talks with the allies, UDF convener P. P. Thankachan said more talks were required. Congress president Sonia Gandhi is expected to hold talks with the party leadership as well as with UDF allies on Wednesday.
League leaders pointed out that the Congress and Muslim League had contested against each other in the local body elections which should not be repeated in the Assembly elections. Industries minister and Muslim League leader P. K. Kunhalikutty led the talks with the Congress here.
Kerala Congress (M) demanded that the approach of the Congress leadership to them should be improved. Ever since former finance minister and KC(M) chairman K. M. Mani had to step down from the UDF cabinet owing to the bar scam allegation, the relation has not been smooth.
After the talks, Thankachan told reporters that all allies had demanded better seat allocation in the Assembly elections. The UDF leaders are expected to raise the seat allocation issue before Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday afternoon at the talks being planned at the Nattakom Government guest house in Kottayam.
