Bengaluru: People have to wait for some more days to know the caste equation in Karnataka with 'software' problems and shortage of data feeders delaying the entire exercise.
These problems have been addressed now and the date for formal release of a survey report on the social and economic condition of those living in Karnataka will be decided during the first week of January next year.
However, the survey is incomplete as far as Bengaluru city is concerned due to lack of co-operation of gated communities with census workers barred from entering their premises and residents refusing to share information sought by the Department of Backward Classes.
Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya, while admitting a delay in the release of the survey report, said that a mechanism will be worked out soon to collect details of the gated community, techies settled abroad and people living in apartments since they had refused to part with details.
They have totally failed to understand the importance of this document that would shed light on the social and economic status of each citizen living in the State.
This document would help the government to chalk out welfare schemes/programmes aimed at uplifting the social and economically backward castes/communities.
“We are trying to compute details of all those people who did not allow census workers inside their buildings, through other means. Help of other department is being sought to obtain their personal details. Karnataka is the only state which has taken up this survey after a gap of seven decades.”
The minister said that he was not elated but was satisfied with the pace of progress of the survey compilation work and added that much time was lost owing to shortage of data feeders at many places.
He revealed that he had reviewed the progress of work last week and instructed the concerned officials to speed up the work since they had failed to catch up with the deadline.
“I personally feel that the work could have been faster had they received co-operation from one and all. While the census received a good response in other districts, the response was not so encouraging in Bengaluru city.”
Mr Anjaneya contended that the report was not a secret document and anyone can access it by applying through RTI.
The report basically speaks about the condition of one and all in Karnataka. The date for official release of this document will be decided in due consultation with the chief minister during the first week of next month.
