Crime rate on rise in Cyberabad

The overall crime rate saw a growth of six per cent from 28,790 cases in 2014.
Hyderabad: In 2015, the Cyberabad police managed to recover 79 per cent of property – worth Rs 22.61 crore – that had been reported lost in various offences.
Of the 30,527 cases registered in the year, bodily offences accounted for 62 per cent followed by property offences (16 per cent), and road accidents (12 per cent).
Meanwhile snatching cases came down from 793 in 2014 to 372 in 2015. However, the overall crime rate saw a growth of six per cent from 28,790 cases in 2014.
Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand said that their policy of “effective policing” had encouraged more people to come forward to lodge complaints, resulting in the increase of registered cases.
Property crimes, which include all types of thefts, burglaries and snatchings, came down from 5,404 in 2014 to 4,980 in 2015. Citizens lost property worth around '28.80 crore in 2015, of which property worth Rs 22.61 crore was recovered.
“Seventy-nine per cent of property recovered is the highest in the state and we detected 63 per cent cases, which is also a good figure,” said the commissioner.
Chain-snatching, which has been the prime focus area for the cops, came down by 53 per cent to 372 cases in 2015 compared to 793 in 2014.
“Though snatchings came down, violence on women during snatchings increased. The anti-chain-snatching teams are working effectively to counter the snatchers,” said Mr Anand.
The traffic police collected Rs 55.46 crore in fines and 5.46 lakh cases were registered after introducing the integrated e-challan system. Road accidents increased by 18 per cent with 1,156 deaths.
The commissioner said ongoing Metro works across the city was one of the major reasons for the increase in accidents. “Places where Metro works have been completed are left without any barricades or dividers. We wrote to the Metro Rail authorities to provide a solution and they are working on it,” the commissioner added.
The SOT detected 2,192 cases and arrested 357 persons involved in various types of scams and recovered materials worth Rs 23.34 crore.
Keeping track on youth: Cops

With the number of ISIS sympathisers growing, the Cyberabad police are proactively trying to prevent them from being attracted by terror ideologies. “We are regularly counselling the youths who tend to divert to such ideologies but maintaining secrecy as they may feel humiliated if they are exposed and it will lead them to some strange decisions,” said Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand.
