Chennai film director attacks friend, held
Chennai: A film director attacked his friend during drunken brawl at Virugambakkam on Monday night. Sathish Shanmugam (35) an assistant director in the Tamil film industry, who is believed to be currently working on a film titled, Raagu resides on Amaravathi Street in Sheikh Abdullah Nagar.
Shanmugam along the victim, Senthil (35), who hails from Amman Koil Street, Arikuvilai in Kanyakumari, was consuming liquor at the director’s house on Monday. Around 11.45 pm, the duo got into a fight and Senthil allegedly started to speak in filthy language. Enraged Shanmugam tried to slit Senthil’s throat.
Hearing the victim’s screams, neighbours rushed to the house and found Senthil bleeding while Shanmugam had already fled the scene. The victim was immediately rushed to a hospital nearby and treated for injuries.
Senthil had arrived in the city only a few days ago in the hopes to find a new job and earn better. He previously worked at a construction site. Shanmugam was arrested on Monday morning after Senthil filed a complaint against him at Virugambakkam police.
The accused was produced before a magistrate court and then sent to Puzhal prison. Shanmugam has been an assistant director in the film industry for over 15 years.
