It’s not your everyday workshop

An art meet-up brought together some of the biggest names from the city and beyond.

The otherwise silent studio of Artist Chippa Sudhakar in the quaint little village of Kismatpur, Ranga Reddy district, was bustling with activity on Monday. A group of 12 students along with artists from the city and a few from other countries came together to be part of a workshop — Drawing Space.

Sudhakar, whose annual printmaking camps are famous with the art community, decided to take a break from the usual this time. “The idea was to go beyond a medium and the usual art that is available. And that is when we decided to come up with this one-week workshop where people will draw from around the surroundings. By that I don’t just mean create drawings, but create installations and artwork apart from performances that are inspired from the surroundings,” explains Sudhakar.

The workshop will end up with a show. Santhosh Sakinala, one of the organisers, explains. “We are trying to put artists in a situation where there is no medium, there are no rules to creating anything and drawing will not be limited to creating images on paper. Here, artists will interact with the space and the process of expression will come through, and through this process the artist will discover a medium.”

After the week-long drawing camp that will also see artist Laxma Goud taking part, there will be a puppet show and students will get to meet artist Chinna Ramaiah who will guide them through the nuances of leather puppet making. Apart from the workshop, another group art show, Confluence, will take place.
