Cinematographers’ Association election heats up in Kollywood town
South Indian Cinematographer Association — is gearing up for a fierce battle in their impending elections.
Even before the hullabaloo and high drama of the recently concluded Nadigar Sangam elections dies down, yet another association — the South Indian Cinematographer Association — is gearing up for a fierce battle in their impending elections. Often referred to as SICA, these elections are reportedly taking place after a gap of eight years, on January 10. The association has split into three groups who are contesting — Service Team headed by G. Shiva, the incumbent president, Neutral Team formed by PC Sreeram and Aandavar Ani led by Kanniyappan.
The members of Aandavar Ani recently lashed out at G. Shiva for mismanagement of funds in the association, among other issues. They also questioned PC Sreeram and Rajiv Menon from the Neutral Team about why they have kept quiet without raising their voice on the malpractices in SICA so far, and are suddenly jumping into the election fray. “We want a fair election,” said Kanniyappan who had promised several things in his manifesto.
“The association has been functioning without a proper administrative setup for many years. We wanted to regulate the situation at SICA and therefore went to court seeking its intervention,” Kannan, contesting from the PC Sreeram team, had earlier said.
