Chennai Open: Leander Paes to team up with spain’s Granollers

The Indo-spanish duo have been seeded second at the ATP event.

New Delhi: Veteran tennis star Leander Paes will team up with Spain’s Marcel Granollers in the men’s doubles event at the ATP Chennai Open that begins January 4. The Indo-spanish duo have been seeded second at the ATP event.

The doubles draw at the 20th edition of the event will feature, along with Paes, Rajeev Ram, Benoit Paire and Borna Coric. In the previous edition, Paes and Raven Klaasen had ended runners-up losing to eventual champions Yen-Hsun Lu and Jonathan Marray.

The two pairs will be handed wild cards for this edition. The Chennai Open will witness a line-up of top talent and has a prize money of $480,000. Cutting off at 98, the field for the tournament will see World No.4 Stanislas Wawrinka vying for a hat-trick of titles, World No.12 Kevin Anderson, World No.19 and ATP’s Comeback Player of the Year 2015 Benoit Paire, World No.25 Roberto Bautista-Agut, along with Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, Gilles Muller, Vasek Pospisil, Borna Coric, and Aljaz Bedene representing nine players from among the top 50 in the world. The top seeded doubles pair for this edition are South Africa’s Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram of the United States.
