Telangana: Congress men fight over turf

Groups threw rotten eggs and footwear at each other.

Hyderabad: Differences among the City and Ranga Reddy District Congress Committees came to the fore on Monday over jurisdiction, with workers owing allegiance to the RR DCC president Kamya Mallesh Goud attacking City Congress president Danam Nagender at Uppal.

This led to a clash between two groups who threw rotten eggs and footwear at each other.

The differences over jurisdiction among the two committees had been visible ever since Mr Nagender claimed he is the president of Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee, an area that covers 50 divisions in Ranga Reddy district.

This was opposed by Mr Goud and others who questioned Mr Nagender’s authority to interfere in their affairs.

It was in this backdrop that Mr Goud hosted the party flag at Uppal to mark the party’s 131st formation day, as directed by the AICC.

However Mr Nagender reached Uppal and again unfurled the same flag that had been hoisted by Mr Goud.

This angered Mr Goud’s followers who hurled footwear and rotten eggs on Mr Nagender and his associates. After a tussle lasting a few minutes, the two groups were pacified by local leaders.

However Mr Nagender claimed that according to the orders issued by AICC president Sonia Gandhi, he was the Greater Hyderabad Congress president, which also means the GHMC divisions that are part of RR district.

“If f any problem surfaces, I will talk to RR district Congress Committee president and sort out the issue,” he said, adding that he was not hurt in the clashes and nobody attacked him.

Meanwhile Mr Goud told newsmen it was not proper for Mr Nagender to make a fuss in an area that comes under his jurisdiction.

He said RR district Congress leaders already brought the issue to the notice of the AICC leadership and urged it to inform Mr Nagender about his limits.
