PMK case against Simbu withdrawn

The case was filed under the Indecent Representation of Women Act and IT Acts.
Chennai: Hounded by the police, government and fringe groups who want him prosecuted for creating the ‘Beep’ song, actor / singer Silambarasan aka STR got a reprieve Monday after the PMK withdrew a petition filed against him. The petitioner, Venkatesan, a PMK party functionary who is said to be the south Chennai (West) district secretary, withdrew his petition before the Saidapet magistrate court on the ‘advice’ of the party high command.
Venkatesan’s lawyer, Williams, told DC that the petition was first filed on December 18. “After Simbu’s parents T. Rajendar and Usha Rajendar went on television cameras to express their anguish at the treatment of their son, the party leaders felt that it was unfair to continue with the case,” Williams said. “It was decided that an artiste’s feelings should be respected and my client was asked to withdraw the case,” he added.
The case was filed under the Indecent Representation of Women Act and IT Acts. A similar case filed by one Bismi at the Saidapet court was posted to January 11 for further hearing, handing the absconding actor time to put up a defence.
