Maoists warn, cops hit back
D. Gautam Sawang termed the Maoists’ act opportunistic.
Vijayawada: After a lull, the Maoists, on Monday, issued a warning that they would punish all those involved in the call money scam (sextortion) case if the government failed to do so. In response to this, a press release from the Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada, D. Gautam Sawang, termed the Maoists’ act opportunistic. “The Maoists are trying to take advantage of the situation in the State and attract more people into their fold,” the press release from the commissioner of the police read.
“The press release by CPI (Maoists) looks like an attempt to garner attention and sympathy of the public by speaking on call money issue. Many people in the State lost life and properties due to Maoist activities. With the call money issue coming to light now, Maoists, who have been silent till now, are trying to gain from the situation,” the Commissioner said.
The press release from the CPI (Maoist) AP State Committee signed by official spokesperson Shyam stated that the government and police were shielding the real culprits in the case. The release also alleged that, “Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is running a conspiracy in the State. We will bust the sextortion racket in people’s court. Police and government are busy in saving the MLAs, MLCs of TD”, the release stated.
They warned Naidu “Chandrababu! Even if you and your government conspire to save accused in call money and sextortion cases, they can’t escape people. Government and police should have to decide if people punish them or government”, it stated
