Hyderabad: Hyderabadis can expect a dedicated power island facility which will be a mix of solar and thermal electricity. Of the total demand of 4,370 MW in the state every day, Hyderabad alone consumes 2,000 MW. IT minister K.T. Rama Rao said the TRS would spend Rs 2,000 crore on the project, including on the distribution network like 400 KV sub-stations. The target is to make the city power-cut free.
The facility would be spread out so that if one plant goes down, the other units will continue. He said the state would exceed the target of 10 per cent power demand that would be met via renewable energy. “Telangana is the only state which has called for 3,000 MW tenders to tap solar energy and discovered the second lowest price of Rs 5.17 per unit,” he said.

KTR was petrified of maths
Mathematics used to petrify IT minister K.T. Rama Rao when he was a student. “When I was in Class X I found it difficult to understand simple formulae, I tried to “rattofy” the test papers but it still did not help. The only thought I had in my tenth grade was, ‘how do I avoid maths in future?’ I wanted to tell my parents, so one day I went to Abids and bought some books related to HEC and CEC combinations. I arranged the books on my shelf and my father’s shelf to make them understand that I was not interested in Sciences. Eventually my father asked me about it. I told him I wanted to do anything but Maths and he told me that the principle of exclusion cannot be used to take this important decision.”
Mr Rao was speaking about how Indians were known the world over as good workers but not for their entrepreneurial skills due to lack of creativity, which is stifled at a young age because the decisions students take are usually based on what their parents want and how a decision taken at intermediate level sticks with a person for his or her entire life unlike in Western countries.
‘i am not TRS number 2’
“I am neither No 2 nor I have aspiration to become Chief Minister,” IT minister K.T. Rama Rao said. “I tell you honestly. We aspired for the state. Today I look at it as bonus period. I know for the fact that out of 3.6 crore population of Telangana, there are lakhs of people smarter than me,” he said. “I am fortunate that today that being virtue of being somebody’s son I am sitting with you and talking to you. I am very conscious of this. If I am aspire something bigger I will be a fool and greedy. I will never do that. I am content with what I am. Definitely, I don’t have that big aspiration. I want KCR garu to lead the state for another 10 to 15 years,” he said. “Absolutely not. Na level ki idi yekuva/ Ekuva asha padthe durasha avuthundi (For my level, this is a big thing. If I aspire further, I will be greedy). I am not Kiran Kumar Reddy.” he laughed.
TRS to urge citizens to go and vote
The TRS wants to tap into the vote bank of the educated, upwardly mobile voter population of Hyderabad ahead of the GHMC elections. It is planning to take up an aggressive social media campaign – “Get out to vote. I am frustrated. People in urban areas, resort to armchair and keyboard criticism but when it comes to voting, the percentage is abysmal. The educated lot are fantastic at criticising. In a democracy people who show up matter. Those who do not show up make a big fuss about how politics should be and give intellectual discourses, they do not matter.”
‘Why has PM ignored three Telangana invites?’
IT minister K.T. Rama Rao said on Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had time to tour countries across the globe, but he did not have the time to visit the 29 states of India. He said that the Telangana government had invited the Prime Minister thrice, to launch the Water Grid, Mission Kakatiya and for the Telangana State Formation Day ceremony, but he did not turn up. Mr Rao said, “I don’t have anything personal against Modi or BJP. My only point is Modi Saab hasn’t shown his face to the people here. BJP kya mooh leke poochegi vote (With what face will the BJP seek votes in the GHMC polls)?”
