Jayalalithaa inaugurates Amway facility

Amway India, subsidiary of US-based Amway Corporation, has set up the factory at Sipcot Industrial Park on 50 acres. The facility will provide direct employment to 500 persons and indirect employment to 1,500, an official press release said.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the factory through video-conferencing on Monday. The US-based direct selling fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) firm set up its third manufacturing plant besides in the US and China. Wishing the firm a great success, Jayalalithaa said “The Amway plant is most impressive”.

The 55-year-old firm has been ranked as 25th largest firm in USA by Forbes magazine. It has been engaged in manufacturing and selling health, cosmetics and consumer items.

In the presence of Chief Minister, Amway management signed a memorandum on November 5, 2012, to set up a factory in Tamil Nadu at an estimate cost of Rs 300 crore.

Considering a favourable climate for investments in the state, the firm hiked the investment to Rs 550 crore and an agreement to this effect was signed at the Global Investors Meet in Chennai in September.

Over 5.50 lakh active independent Amway business owners will benefit from the products manufactured in the plant. Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for opening the unit, Anshu Budhraja, CEO, Amway India, said “We take pride that we have completed the plant in 26 months. We have set up a high tech research and development centre.”

The Chief Minister also inaugurated revenue department buildings, constructed at a cost of Rs 71.55 crore in Tirupur, Vellore, Chennai, Kanchipuram and Sivaganga districts, including the Collectorate building in Tirupur. The CM also inaugurated the new revenue divisions – Avadi in Tiruvallur, Bargur in Krishnagiri, Viralimalai in Pudukottai, Vembakottai in Virudhunagar and Thiruvengadam in Tirunelveli districts.
