Hyderabad High Court questions cops on helmet

Bench was dealing with a petition filed in 2010 by Mr Vudataneni Rama Rao.

Hyderabad: Expressing surprise at the apprehensions of the city police that strict implementation of the helmet rule would help chain snatchhers, the Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the Telangana government to file a report explaining the action taken against officers who had failed to implement the helmet rule.

A division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt expressed dissatisfaction at an action-taken report (ATR) submitted by the authorities with regard to the compulsory helmet rule.

Citing that it saw many two-wheeler riders in city not wearing helmets while coming to the High Court, the Bench threatened to pass orders for action against the officers concerned over their failure to implement the rule.

The Bench was dealing with a petition filed in 2010 by Mr Vudataneni Rama Rao of Ranga Reddy district, who sought to declare as illegal the inaction of respondents in not implementing the rules.
