Congress can do what Modi did in 2014: MV Rajeev Gowda

"State has got this opportunity and I hope like many other workers that CM will not let go of this opportunity.”

Bengaluru: In a significant comment on the functioning of the Congress government in the state, party national spokesperson, Prof. M.V. Rajeev Gowda on Monday asserted that it has the capability to turn the tide in favour of the party and revive its prospects nationally provided it goes full throttle on development.

Speaking at the 131st Foundation Day celebrations of the party here, Prof. Gowda said, “What Prime Minister Narendra Modi did in 2014, the Congress too can do the same, if the ruling party in Karnataka strives to become a Model state nationally. There are several instances where good governance in a state, has revived hopes of national parties in various countries. Karnataka has got this opportunity and I hope like many other party workers that Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah will not let go of this opportunity.”

Expressing similar views, Legislative Council former chairman, V.R. Sudarshan asserted that the Congress party of late was living on ‘interest accrued’ by late prime ministers, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and their legacy.

“No state Congress unit is making much of an effort to add to this legacy, rather all states are dependent only on this legacy to come to power in their respective states. We need to get over this feeling and work really hard to help our party nationally,” he said.

Coming down heavily on Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, KPCC president, Dr G. Parameshwar criticised the former’s pet slogan - Congress Mukt Bharat. “Mr Modi cannot fulfil his own slogans. One of his slogans was to make India free from Congress, it will not be possible in his entire life time. He thinks that by slapping politically motivated cases on our President, Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi, he would be able to turn the tide in his favour, but it will have a negative impact on his political graph,” he said.
