Six excise staff held for taking bribe

One SI and five constables of the excise department were arrested.
Visakhapatnam: ACB sleuths on Monday caught a sub-inspector and constables of the excise department while demanding and accepting bribe from liquor shops in Srikakulam. One SI and five constables of the excise department were arrested. The accused excise staff were identified as sub-inspector Seshagiri Rao, head constables Ram Rao, Rajasekhar Babu and constables, Dharma Raju, Chiranjeevulu and Srinivasa Rao.
The ACB personnel arrested the erring excise staff and recovered Rs 85,000 collected by them from the liquor shops towards monthly bribe. According to ACB deputy superintendent of police Ranga Raju, they received info from reliable sources that the excise department team was collecting monthly bribes from the liquor shops. Mr Ranga Raju, said that the excise sleuths were collecting Rs 3,000-Rs 5,000 from the liquor shops apart from Rs 4,000-Rs 6,000 from the bar and restaurants every month.
The ACB sleuths laid a trap and waited at Pedapadu while the excise staff were returning to Srikakulam town after collecting bribes in Palasa division on Sunday night. The ACB sleuths stopped them and recovered Rs 85,000, the money they earned through illegal means, from them.
