Hyderabad witnesses decline in cases against women
Hyderabad: The most recent Hyderabad police records show that cases of crime against women including rape and dowry murders declined in city this year. However, domestic harassment cases showed an increase. The special police team, SHE, which was formed to prevent the street harassment women face every day, brought down offences against women in public places.
As per the police data, a total of 2,244 cases of crime against women were registered this year against 2,241 in 2014. The city recorded 108 rape cases were reported this year, down from 132 last year. Last year, there was nine cases of murder for dowry, while only two such cases were reported this year, records show.
Harassment cases increased to 1,523 this year from 1,303 reported last year. SHE teams arrested as many as 345 persons including 142 minors. As many as 26 persons were jailed, 120 persons were fined, and 76 persons were warned, police officials said.
