After two months on guard, Olive Ridley turtles released

It took 48 days for the eggs to hatch.
Kasargod: It has been a mission for K.G.M sports club members at Valiyaparamba in Trikaripur of Kasargod district to spend sleepless nights as watchmen protecting the lives of a species that was mentioned as endangered--Olive ridley sea turtles.
After nearly two-months on guard, the joyous moment came on Saturday and the club members along with officials of the forest department released the 18 olive ridley turtles to where they belong, the sea.
“It was indeed a great occasion. We were on guard on the beach every night since November to save the eggs from prowling foxes and stray dogs,” beamed club office bearer T.K Anil Kumar.
It took 48 days for the eggs to hatch. As any sort of artificial hatchery will be a threat to the lives of the eggs, the club members had erected a temporary fence on the beach and protected them.
According to officials, if olive ridley turtles once select a beach for laying eggs, many generations would choose the same place. They lay eggs in mass numbers.
