2015 put police on their toes in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: The year 2015 will remain a special year for the city police commissionerate, which saw a lot of challenges including the functioning of the state capital in Vijayawada.
Police personnel went through a rough experience with a series of sensitive issues like dealing with criminals as well as protecting the interests of the people of Vijayawada and those coming from across the state.
Sharing his experiences since assuming charge as commissioner of police on August 2, Mr D. Gautam Sawang said, “It has been challenging and there is increasing demand and expectations on police post bifurcation and capital started functioning from here.”
“Whole dynamics of policing, police station and traffic engagement has changed since August.
“Since its capital city everything becomes a sensitive issue and lot of articulation follows. Every issue in the state finds an expression here in the city. It was not the case earlier. This needs police to be on toes round-the-clock in view of VIP visits, movements, private events and state-sponsored events,” Mr Sawang added.
“Traffic remained an important challenge in city and more locations needed to be manned due to increasing traffic and diversions imposed in view of flyover construction,” Mr Sawang said.
However, like never before, police unearthed several scams, which existed since years but were ignored.
The ghee adulteration scam came to light after police arrested one Avula Phani. Later, the busting of sexual exploitation gang in the guise of call money changed the call money scenario in the city as well as the state. Meanwhile, the top cop’s idea to impart global policing among the low level police personnel is yet to be achieved.
