Senior officers of Mumbai police to be quizzed in Sheena Bora murder case
New Delhi: The CBI probing the high-profile Sheena Bora murder case is now preparing to examine some officials of the Mumbai police who had earlier investigated the case. The special crime unit of the CBI, which has lodged a case against Indrani Mukerjea, her former husband Sanjay Khanna and former driver Shyamvar Pinturam Rai in the Sheena Bora case, recently arrested former media baron Peter Mukerjea in connection with the case.
Sources said, “At this stage it is difficult to say the specific motive behind Sheena’s murder and the agency is working on a number of different angles which might have triggered the crime. The agency sleuths are also exploring the possibility of examining the Mumbai cops who had earlier investigated the case.”
Sheena (24), Indrani’s daughter from an earlier marriage, was allegedly killed by her mother, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai in April 2012.
The CBI has claimed that it has come across some important information and incriminating documents, some related to their movable properties which are very crucial for the purpose of the investigation. The agency sleuths are also scrutinising income-tax returns filed by Peter and Indrani to ascertain their various investments in India and abroad, they added. The CBI may take assistance of the Enforcement Directorate also in this connection, sources said.
The ED is preparing to initiate a separate inquiry against Peter to investigate whether former media baron allegedly siphoned-off money abroad. The ED is scrutinising documents pertaining to a Kolkata-based firm, allegedly linked to Indrani and Peter. Besides, two others private firms based in Kolkata are also under the scanner of the ED. If required, the ED may take assistance from the Maharashtra and West Bengal police after initiating a formal inquiry against Mukerjea, sources said.
