Security tightened in Kodagu for polling

Kodagu is limping back to normal after a violence erupted during the Tipu Jayanti celebrations.

Mysuru: Security has been beefed up for the Legislative Council elections in Kodagu district, which is limping back to normal after a violence erupted during the Tipu Jayanti celebrations on November 11.

In Madikeri, 11 sub inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors, led by a superintendent of police and two circle inspectors, will oversee the elections. In Somwarpet, 11 police inspectors, two circle inspectors and one DySP will manage the security arrangements.

Apart from them, 127 head constables and 151 constables have been deputed, said Kodagu Superintendent of Police Varthika Katiyar.

Five candidates, including H.S. Chandramauli from Congress, Sunil Subramani from Bharatiya Janata Party, Sanketh Poovaiah from Janata Dal (Secular) and two independent candidates – Nagaveni and S.P. Mahadeveappa, are in the fray.

As many as 1,409 voters, including 75 from Madikeri taluk, the highest in the district, will cast their franchise.
