Ring in some revelry
End 2015 with a bang as you host some fabulous house parties with champagne, cocktails, dancing et al, just like these youngsters from the city.
Not big on the glitzy lights, milling crowds and sharing the last few minutes of 2015 with total strangers? If your answer is a resounding ‘NO!’, we suggest you follow in the footsteps of a growing number of Bengaluru youngsters who are giving the biggest parties a miss and turning their homes into nightclubs, come December 31.
Take 25-year-old Rebecca Denise Rassendran for example. This young lady’s NYE parties have become somewhat of an annual highlight for those on her most-dialled list. “I’m not a fan of fancy dos that have well-known DJs playing, simply because venturing out on NYE can be unsafe. Being with people you actually know and love is way more fun,” shares Rassendran, who has a party kit that she always keeps ready for house parties.
“The kit has a pair of bluetooth speakers, lights that can be synchronised with the music and of course, an iPod with lots of dance tracks. It virtually turns your house into a club,” she explains.
For 35-year old Aditi Devi, house parties give her the freedom to do things at her leisure, without the hassle of dealing with traffic and jostling with unknown revellers. “It’s comfortable and pleasant, but it’s also extremely wild,” shares Devi. And whoever said pool parties are exclusively for the sultry summers, have clearly not met her for this year, she plans to host a poolside do. “I think we’re having an unusually warm winter, so I thought why not have a pool party. It could get cold in the night, so I’m telling my guests to come prepared. We’re having floating candles in the water and diyas placed around the garden. I’ve also hired caterers and finalised on a ‘pool’ themed menu, that includes cocktails like Pina Colada and Mai Tai,” she reveals. Smita Kommini, a skateboarder and amateur tattoo artiste, is contemplating making her X-box Kinnect her best friend by using it as a party tool. “So I’m going to set up the Just Dance game, where you have to follow the moves of the figures on the screen. The dances are set to the most popular songs and the one who follows the moves most closely wins. The prizes range from spa vouchers to gift cards. I think it’s a fun way to get everyone involved,” she tells us, adding that she prefers to stay indoors on NYE as she doesn’t like crowds and parties are ridiculously overpriced during this time of year.
Arjun Ramamurthy and his wife, turn their home overlooking a lake into a stunning party set every year. “It’s so much easier to party at home. So we’ve been doing it for ages now. We’re going to have the party on our terrace, where we’ll be setting up a barbecue. It always gets a little wild and uncontrollable which is fun for everyone else but the hosts. So I hope this year is different,” he says with a laugh.
