SAFF Cup: Robin Singh brace lifts India
Robin broke the stalemate with a left foot drive six minutes after the restart.
Thiruvananthapuram: Robin Singh scored a second-half brace as India defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 to top Group ‘A’ of the SAFF Cup at the greenfield stadium here on Friday.
The result has diminished Nepal’s chances of reaching the semifinals as they play India in the final match of the group on Sunday.
Despite several waves of attacks India failed to effect a breakthrough and at half-time coach Constantine was forced to make a change, Rowlin Borges replaced Pranoy Halder and the lanky midfielder attempted to release Jeje, but on offside.
Robin broke the stalemate with a left foot drive six minutes after the restart. The Bengaluru player stepped back into position as Chhetri found his way past two defenders for a pull-back. He nearly doubled the next minute but Perera made a low diving save.
