Karimnagar: Girl mesmerises with memory power
Karimnagar: A doctor's daughter is proving her mettle in mnemonics or the study of systems that assist memory. She can memorise the days occurring in 10,000 years, from 1 BC to 9,999 AD, calendar years of many countries and numbers up to 300 at a stretch. Fourteen-year-old Anaga-ndula Sai Meghana, daughter of general surgeon Dr Srinivas and a student of Class X at Alphores IAS Academy, wrote herself into the Wonder Book of World Records when she performed this feat at a programme held here on Friday. She is the only girl to have been able to memorise the days of 10,000 years, said Bingi Narender Goud, south India coordinator for the Wonder World Book of Records, who presented her a medal and certificate. He said that they would make an official announcement about her feat in 20 days’ time after verifying it.
Sai Meghana was able to recollect the days of any date in a year from 1 BC to 9,999 AD that audiences asked during the programme. She also spelt out names of months of calendars, such as the Gregorian, Mayan, Islamic, Bahaai, Persian and Hebrew within a short span of time.
She recalled names of 60 years of the Telugu calendar. Dr Srinivas said that his daughter had undergone rigorous training at a soft skills coaching institution in the city for six months, her aim being to prove herself in a non-academic discipline. She represented Telangana state in the National Memory Championship held by the National Memory Council in Hyderabad last month. She likes to collect history and political science books.
