2015 costly for Guntur students
Three students committed suicide this year in Guntur district alone.
Vijayawada: Three students committed suicide this year in Guntur district alone from various colleges. Two of the three were girls. M. Rishiteswari, Sunita and Surya Rao committed suicide as they became the victim of ragging besides being harassed by the management. Ms Rishiteswari, B. Arch student of ANU campus, who committed suicide, was a victim of ragging, which triggered high alert in the state. The state government constituted the Bala Subrahmanyam Comm-ittee to probe into the matter and it submitted a report to the government.
After the incident, the then vice-chancellor R.S. Sambasiva Rao was removed and the case related to student’s death was under progress in the court of law. The second girl student was Ms Sunita, an engineering final year student at Malineni Lakshmaiah Engineering College at Pulladigunta at Vatti-cherukuru mandal. She jumped from the college building and died. There were allegations against her for ragging juniors. The students at the college openly condemned the management for their harassment of Sunita.
Bapatla Agricultural College student Surya Rao committed suicide by consuming pesticide. He committed suicide alleg-edly for being harassed by the faculty. After the incident the college students protested and classes were suspended for about a month.
