Child labour: Minor girl beaten up in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: In yet another case of child slavery and domestic abuse, a 12-year-old girl was “tortured and indiscriminately beaten up” by her employer, the wife of a sailor in the Indian Navy, at Sriharipuram area under Malkapuram police station limits in the city on Friday. Sources said Anjali, wife of sailor Manoj Kumar, is a native of Bihar and is residing at Indiranagar.
Anjali brought the 12-year-old to Vizag from Bihar as a domestic help a few months back. On Friday afternoon, Anjali beat up the girl with a stick, causing injuries on her head as she had not done some work. After hearing the girl crying, neighbours upbraided Anjalu and called in the Malkapuram police.

Anjali tried to mislead the cops claiming that the girl was injured in a fall. Malkapuram inspector P. Ranganadham said primary investigations revealed the girl was tortured and mercilessly beaten up.
Police shifted the girl to a nearby hospital. “We have registered a case under Section 324 of IPC against Anjali, started investigations and informed officials of the women and child welfare and labour department for further action," the inspector said.
