Chennai cops bust gang of four bike thieves
33 stolen bikes, autorickshaw seized.
Chennai: Police busted a gang of four which was stealing vehicles parked on the roadside in city’s suburban areas and seized 33 stolen bikes and an autorickshaw totally worth Rs 20 lakh from them on Friday.
The suspects were caught during a regular vehicle check near Maduravoyal by-pass road. The suspects were identified as M Karthi, 23, and B Mubarak, 20, both hailing from Baghyalakshmi Nagar, B Rajasekar alias Shaddique, 24, of Ayyappa Nagar and V Saravanan, 20, of Dhanalakshmi Nagar at Maduravoyal.
A police team became suspicious as the four, riding bikes, had no valid papers and were giving contradictory statements when questioned. They were later taken to the police station where they confessed to the crime. Preliminary inquiries revealed that they identified parked bikes during night and stole the vehicles late night.
Describing the gang’s modus operandi, police said the bike thieves used to park the stolen two-wheelers on the roadside two or three streets away and left the scene
on their vehicles.
They visited the same place during the daytime and drove away the stolen bikes to avoid raising suspicion in the residents and police. The police also seized a stolen autorickshaw from them.
