KCR-Naidu thaw on display during bypoll
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had said that Section 8 of the AP Reorganisation Act had to be implemented in letter and spirit and said that since Hyderabad is not only the capital of Telangana, but of AP too, both states have equal rights in terms of law and order.
AP police had also announced establishment of separate police stations in Hyderabad to tackle law and order issues concerning the 30 lakh Seemandhra people living in the city. But by the end of the year, it all turned out to be rhetoric, a game of political one-upmanship, and neither side took any concrete steps.
Now, both CMs have agreed to resolve any outstanding issues, including sharing of waters. Both seem to have agreed to forget the past and concentrate only on issues concerning their states.
As the year progressed, there was a stark difference in the region’s politics. Mr Naidu did not campaign in the Warangal Lok Sabha bypoll while Mr Rao did not utter a single word against Mr Naidu during his election meeting there.
Mr Naidu had personally invited his counterpart for the Amaravati foundation-laying ceremony and the latter graced the occasion. Then Mr Rao flew to Vijayawada and invited Mr Naidu for his Chandi Yagam, which Mr Naidu promised to attend. On both occasions they spoke in private and no one knows what they spoke about.
As far as 2016 is concerned, Mr Naidu will be busy overseeing the shifting of the AP official machinery from Hyderabad to Amaravati and also with the construction activity of the new capital city. Similarly, Mr Rao has announced that he will concentrate on implementing the big projects that his government has taken up.
