UGC seeks report on status of CBCS implementation

Choice-based credit system will enable students to opt for courses of their choice.

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission has sought the status on implementation of Choice Based Credit System, scheduled to be implemented from the upcoming academic session, from all higher education institutions.

The controversial CBCS is a major educational reform being implemented by the government notwithstanding the protest from a section of teachers and students. The UGC has written a letter to all higher education institutes in the country seeking “the status of implementation of CBCS”. The details have been sought in an effort to speed up the implementation of the educational reform initiative.

All universities, “unanimously” agreed to its roll out at crucial meet of the VCs in July this year. Out of 39 CUs, 37 Universities have introduced CBCS at PG level. While 13 new CUs do not have undergraduate programmes and 18 CUs had already introduced CBCS at UG level.

The choice-based credit system will enable students to opt for courses of their choice, learn at their own pace, undergo additional courses and migrating seamlessly from one university to another.
