Sahodaran Ayyappan museum charms visitors
It becomes a niche spot on city’s tourism map.
KOCHI: The Sahodaran Ayyapan museum inaugurated at Cherai two weeks ago is fast becoming a niche spot on the tourism map of Kochi. The museum in memory of the great social reformer, writer and political leader, set up with financial assistance from the tourism department of the state government also provides a starting point for a sojourn to the landmarks of the Muziris Heritage sites.
A visitor to the museum is greeted with 59 panels depicting crucial moments in the life Sahodaran Ayyappan, closely linked with the social and political changes in the erstwhile Cochin-Travancore kingdoms.
The panels in English and Malayalam will help a visitor through some of the momentous events in the evolution of modern Kerala.
The average footfall in the museum is around 30 per day since the inauguration on December 11, said Mr Kolaveli Muraleedharan, secretary of Sahodaran Ayyapan Smarakam.
Apart from the reliefs, the visitors also can see two films on the life of Sahodaran made by the C-DIT. The films are of 20 and 50 minutes’ duration. A sculpture by Cleetus Edvanakkad depicting “mishra bhojanam,” one important event in the life of Sahodaran, is another highlight of the museum.
