Pon Radhakrishnan confident Jallikattu ban will go

The ban on Jallikattu may be lifted during this Pongal festival.
Chennai: The ban on Jallikattu may be lifted during this Pongal festival, union minister of state for heavy industries Pon Radhakrishnan said in a statement on Thursday. Responding to DMK president M Karunanidhi's letter seeking the revival of banned bull taming, the minister said “I am confident that we will be getting permission to hold Jallikattu on Pongal. There were positive held for the past one month and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is positive towards the sentiments of Tamils,” he said in a reply letter to DMK leader.
Radhakrishnan also noted that his cabinet colleague Prakash Javedekar is aware of the situation and had also interacted with the Mr Rajasekar of Jallikattu Peravai, a forum aimed at preserving the traditional bull-taming sport of TN.”
Javedekar had also conducted deliberations in this regard with the union ministry of Environment and Forest officials regarding the amendment to the performing animal acts excluding bulls.
Meanwhile a day after Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa urged the Centre to introduce a Bill to amend the laws to conduct Jallikattu, TN opposition leader Vijayakanth slammed both the ruling AIADMK and the DMK. In a statement, the DMDK founder said both the Dravidian majors were aware of the Jallikattu legal issues that had been dragging for the past ten years from lower court to Supreme Court.
Both the parties hardly did anything to clear the legal hurdles in the issue, but on the last day of parliament winter session and when the Prime minister Modi is leaving the country, there is a renewed demand from DMK and AIADMK on the issue, he said. AISMK leader Sarath Kumar had also urged the BJP top brass to ensure that Jallikattu is organized during this Pongal so that the traditional sport of Tamils is saved from extinction.
