Vemel is game for negative roles too!

Vemel tells DC that the length of a role has never mattered to him.

Vemel is a busy man these days. The actor, a Koothu-p-Pattarai product, who is currently shooting the family entertainer Mannar Vagera in Pattukkottai, tells DC that the length of a role has never mattered to him.

The actor, who’s awaiting the release of Anjala, set against the backdrop of Madurai, says the film is special to him. “The story revolves around a tea shop, and I play one of the customers. The movie also has a liberal dose of comedy. Pasupathi plays the teashop owner. It’s one of those roles that are close to reality. The entire film has a natural appeal. When you watch the film, you’ll fall in love with the cinematography as we shot most of the film in and around Kutralam,” Vemel says.

When asked if village-based scripts are his favourite, (since most of the films that he has done are based on that genre), Vemel smiles, “When I did films like Sillunu Oru Sandippu and Ishtam where I played a city guy, it didn’t go well with the audience. Till this day I have not understand why that is. The films that brought me name are rural based, if you see my history. Also, most of the offers that I get are similar to that role; but I would love to do modern roles too. Directors feel that I am cut out for small-town roles but I am comfortable with anything. More than that, I want to play a full-fledged villain, which I have never tried it so far. I am looking for a perfect script,” he signs off.
