Cops discuss staff crunch, delay in passport processing.
BENGALURU: Home Minister G. Parameshwar continued with his exercise to make surprise visits to police stations in the city and this time it was Whitefield police station in south-east division. He arrived at the station in a private car around 8.45 am on Tuesday and the staff was taken by surprise. He conducted a review meeting with senior and junior officers.
During his two-hour long visit, Dr Parameshwar reviewed overall situation in the police station, including basic amenities. After learning about Home Minister’s visit, Additional Commissioner of Police (East) P. Harisekaran and DCP (Southeast) Dr Rohini Katoch Sepat rushed to the station.
The home minister exhorted the senior police officials to build a top class police station in the area, as it houses scores of well known IT, BT companies. “As the Whitefiled area has the maximum number of IT crowd and is a hub of multinationals, the home minister has advised us to conduct many more Jansampark Sabhas with the people here. He also told us to approach various apartments and conduct community meetings with the residents,” a senior police officer said.
During the interaction, the senior police officers discussed the various challenges they face and brought it to the Minister’s notice issues such as shortage of manpower and delay in the process of passport verifications. The minister promised to look into the matter and said that with the induction of new batch, the problem of shortage of manpower will be taken care of, police said.
“It was a good two-hour long interaction with the Home Minister. He was all ears about the day-to-day problems faced by police department. We also brought to his notice about the new police station building coming up in the jurisdiction, as the current one is an old rented building, hence difficult to manage. He assured all possible support to the department. He encouraged us to conduct more public meetings and also reviewed the status of the cases pending in the police station and left the station at 10.30 am,” said Dr Rohini Katoch Sepat.
