VS Achuthanandan qualified to lead campaign: Kanam Rajendran
Kanam speaks mind ahead of Kerala March.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran on Tuesday said that V. S. Achuthanandan, in his capacity as the Leader of Opposition, is the natural choice to lead the LDF election campaign in 2016.
At a press conference here, he said, "I don't see any ineligibility in him for leading the campaign." Replying to questions on the Kerala Raksha March, the CPI leader said just because Pinarayi Vijayan is leading the march, it does not mean he would become the chief minister.
"Had that been the case, the state would have had many chief ministers by now," he said.
Kanam said the statements being made by BJP state president Kummanam Rajashekharan were aimed at fanning communal passions.
"Devaswom Board funds were subject to auditing by the local fund audit department. Kummanam's allegations that temple funds were being misused and diverted for other purposes are aimed at creating communal strife in the state," he said.
Kanam said that such campaigns were being carried out for facilitating RSS control over temples. Will Kummanam agree to examination of funds belonging to temples owned by private persons and trusts? he asked
The BJP's repeated campaign about the neglect of majority communities by the rival political fronts was to polarise the state on religious lines.
The CPI state secretary said there was no discrimination in stipend being given to SC/ST students and students belonging to the Muslim community.
