Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the Coimbatore police, who issued summons to actor Simbu to appear before them on January 2, 2016 in connection with the controversial ‘Beep’ song, to extend the date of appearance till January 5.
Justice B. Rajendran who gave the directive, posted to January 4, further hearing on the anticipatory bail petitions filed by Simbu, who apprehended arrest in connection with cases registered by the Coimbatore Race Course police and Central Crime Branch, Chennai. When the petitions came up for hearing on Tuesday, Public prosecutor Shanmughavelayutham submitted that the impact of the song was not confined to the city or the state alone, but it has crossed the country. The court may pass orders on merits after hearing elaborate arguments from both sides, he added.
Insisting some interim order, senior counsel R. Muthukumarasamy, appearing for Simbu, submitted that the petitioner’s interest should be safeguarded since the Coimbatore police have issued the second summons requiring the petitioner to appear before them on January 2.
