Karimnagar techie with sword runs amok, shot dead by police

Singh apparently had gone on a rampage as he was depressed for not clearing examinations.

Karimnagar: A 26-year-old software engineer working in Oracle died after being shot by a police official on Tuesday morning in Karimnagar after he went berserk and injured his parents, an autorickshaw driver, two constables and another passerby with a sword.

Sardar Balvinder Singh was shot by an inspector when he allegedly grabbed a gun from a constable. The condition of the injured is stable. Singh was a senior consultant at Oracle Financial Services Software Limited, a subsidiary of Oracle Corporation, Bengaluru, and a native of Laxminagar in Karimnagar.

Karimnagar DSP J. Rama Rao said that Singh died while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital where he was admitted after being shot in self-defence by Karimnagar Town inspector J. Vijayasaradhi at around 6.30 am.

Singh apparently had gone on a rampage as he was depressed for not clearing the Civil Services preliminary examinations. He was also undergoing treatment for depression, said Mr Rao.

Singh first attacked his parents, who live on the third floor of a building in Laxminagar, soon after waking up. He then came down and started breaking car windows and also attacked passersby who tried to stop him.
