Former SP Sunil Jacob free to run detective agency: Kerala High Court

Asks Jacob to stay off police work.
Kochi: Kerala High Court on Tuesday held that former SP Sunil Jacob was free to go ahead with the functioning of his private detective agency. The court however made it clear that he should not interfere with the police.
The court considered an affidavit filed by Sunil Jacob stating that he would not interfere with or encroach into any sort of cases that were pending investigation. He also assured the court that he would not interfere into probes by any agency and would not breach the law while collecting information.
The court also directed the Central government to file an affidavit explaining its view in relation to the functioning of detective agency. The court posted the hearing of the case after four weeks.
The prosecution had earlier submitted that the petitioner had encroached on police power and was running a parallel police station using the help of police personnel.
State Police Chief had said that an inquiry revealed that Sunil Jacob who was heading a private investigation agency had utilised the service of some civil police officers for the promotion of his business.
Lifer awarded to six DYFI men suspended
Kerala High Court on Tuesday suspended the life term awarded to six DYFI activists who were accused in the Paravoor Rajeesh murder case.
A division bench comprising Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice Anu Shivaraman issued the order and granted bail to the accused,
Koduvally natives Anoop, Sujith, Shan, Sumesh, Satheesh and Ajith Kumar. The court asked them to execute a bond of Rs 25,000 along with two solvent sureties.
P. Vijayabhanu appeared for them. Rajeesh, an accused in the murder of a DYFI activist, was killed on January 11, 2009.
The Paravoor sessions court judge had awarded the six activists the sentence.
