Chennai: The southern bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday directed the Madras Fertilizers Limited to stop all its commercial production after Tamil Nadu Pollution Board (TNPCB)submitted  an adverse report saying the it was discharging trade effluents into Ammulavoyal channel through their solar evaporation pan, which finally joins Kosaasthalai river before reaching Ennore creek.

The green bench said the firm can't commence the operations until it meets the TNPCB standards. On Cooum restoration, the government counsel has asked for more time as all officials are busy with the flood relief works. The case has been posted to January 27 for further hearing.
