Chandrasekhar Rao to head all-new Sainik Welfare Board

The state government has reconstituted the Telangana State Rajya Sainik Board.
Hyderabad: The state government has reconstituted the Telangana State Rajya Sainik Board, which oversees welfare of retired defence personnel, with Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao as president and 27 members. The government also decided to enhance the monthly financial assistance to the non-pensioner World War II veterans as well as the non-pensioner widows of World War II veterans from the present Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 per month.
About 30 veterans and 160 widows stand to benefit from this. The Central government had recommended Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000 assistance for them by the governments of states and Union Territories. In the newly-constituted board, the Chief Secretary and secretary, department of ex-servicemen welfare, Ministry of Defence as the vice-presidents, besides defence, state government officials, seven non-officials including TRS leader Capt B. Lakshmikantha Rao, Vanitha Datla of CII, and Surender Rao
of Yashoda Hospital. Six special invitees have also been appointed. In a related event, Anita Rajendra, secretary, TS home department, released Armed Forces Flag Day calendar for 2016.
Stage set for KCR’s Maha Yagam:
The stage is set for Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao's five-day mega Ayutha Chandi Maha Yagam at his Erravalli farmhouse in Jagdevpur mandal of Medak district from Wednesday.
President Pranab Mukherjee, Union ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers of neighbouring states and others have been invited to the yagam, the second of its kind to be held in the country.
The Yagam will begin at 8.10 am on Wednesday wherein 1,500 odd Ritwiks (priests) will conduct the rituals. Mr Rao, along with wife Sobha, conducted Gowri puja, Durga Deepa puja, Sudarshana homam and other rituals on Tuesday morning and evening.
About 2,000-odd police personnel have been drafted for bandobust duty.
