BJP fanning passions: VS Achuthanandan
He said Kummanam wants to restrict temples to only Hindus.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leader of Opposition V. S. Achuthanandan has accused BJP state president Kummanam Rajashekharan of fanning communal feelings in the state.
Achuthanandan said Kummanam's statement on evicting non-Hindus doing petty businesses on temple premises was a call for triggering communal violence.
With Kummanam's elevation as state president, the BJP has come under the total control of the RSS and their intention is to create communal polarisation.
The opposition leader said at a time when Sangh Parivar was trying to revive temple construction activities in Ayodhya, the BJP state leadership is making provocative statements here.
He said Kummanam wants to restrict temples to only Hindus. "It is against state's secular traditions. People come to Sabarimla which is one of the biggest pilgrim centres in south India, cutting cross caste, creed and religion. They visit Vavar mosque before paying obeisance at Sabarimala. Kummanam's statement makes a mockery of these traditions. Who knows tomorrow, he will ask devotees to stop going to Vavar Mosque? Such statements will only create animosity between different religions finally leading to a volatile situation in the state," he said.
Achuthanandan said the Sangh Parivar was conspiring to polarise the state on communal lines the way they did in north India.
