27 get life in 2003 double murder case
Chennai: A sessions court in Tiruvallur awarded double life imprisonment to 27 murder suspects in a double murder case of 2003. One more person arrested in the case died in 2014 following an ailment.
Additional sessions judge M. Vetri Selvi pronounced her judgment on Monday convicting all the 27 accused after confirming them guilty for murdering two innocent villagers Mahesh and Sugumar.
All the 27 have to undergo life sentence on two counts and were asked to remit a fine of Rs 35,000 each for two murders. The judge also awarded five years’ imprisonment and fine of Rs 30,000 each for damaging public property in the village.
However, the imprisonment will be concurrent. The suspects were M. Manimaran, K. Jeevarathinam, K. Urithira Kumar, R. Anbu, R. Velayudham, S. Raj, R. Iyyappan, R. Rajini alias Parthiban, P. Nagaraj, G. Sait, R. Kalidoss, M. Prakash, R. Bala Mahendran, K. Anbu, M. Baskar, N Bala Sankar, R. Narasimhan, K Jayaraman, M. Venkatesan, R. Premkumar, S. Vimal Raj, M. Anbarasan, E. Kumar, S. Deiva Ilango, P. Delli, K. Munusamy, his brother K. Nagaraj.
The deceased man was identified as Kannan alias ‘Thiruttu’ Kannan. When the judge pronounced the judgment, 10 of the suspects were not present in the court. They were nabbed by police and produced before the court on Tuesday and remanded to Puzhal prison. The other 17 accused were remanded to Puzhal prison on Monday.
