Apple iPhones perform 24 billion operations for taking a single photo

A team of 800 engineers have worked to create the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus camera.

Mumbai: A recent report released by Flickr suggested that iPhone cameras occupied the top spot in their evaluation of the most popular devices in 2015. The popularity of Apple device cameras has even managed to overshadow some top DSLR cameras.

Even though Apple cameras do not offer the best camera specifications on paper, their devices still manage to click amazing pictures.

The rising popularity of Apple devices is not just driven by brand value and the company’s senior director of camera hardware Graham Townsend revealed the amount of drudgery put in behind every image clicked by an iPhone.

In the latest edition of CBS’ 60 minutes programme, Townsend pointed out that the latest Apple devices—iPhone 6s and 6s Plus—have approximately 200 individual parts integrated within!

Moreover, he also said that a team 800 engineers have worked relentlessly to create the amazing camera featured by the latest iPhones while another team is employed to develop the software tools to further optimise and improve the quality of the photos and videos.

During an Optical image stabilisation demostration, Townsend also explained that every iPhone performs 24 billion different operations when taking a single picture, which shows how fast an Apple iPhone camera performs.

The Apple iPhone 6s and 6s have only one differece: the 6s Plus features Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). Apart from that both are equipped with a 12-MP primary camera, 1/3” sensor, 4K video support, phase detection auto focus, dual-LED flash, and face recognition.

The selfie-clicking experience on both the devices is also unparallel, as the 5Mp front shooter supports face time, face detection, HDR, and panorama. In addition, the secondary camera can shoot videos in full HD resolution at 30 frames per second.
